Heater remote control
Core & Control license - What is the difference between them?
Every product in the Fenix series has built-in WiFi connectivity. The products come with a MyHarvia Core license. If you want to use remote control, you need to upgrade your license to MyHarvia Control license. The upgrade is purchased directly in the MyHarvia app.
With the free Core license, you can remotely monitor the heater's operation, receive notifications related to heating, and view the sauna's usage history. The key difference between the Core and Control licenses is that Core does not include an option for remote start of the heater. See the comparison between licenses below:
All new products with Core include a free 3-month trial of the Control tier.
Safety device
Remote control of the heater requires a safety device. The door switch supplied with Fenix products is suitable for home use, unless the heater has its own integrated safety device. The SFE safety device, which must be purchased separately, is suitable for professional use (e.g., common saunas in apartment buildings, public saunas, rental cottages).
A safety device is also required when remote control is performed via potential-free tip data (on/off) instead of the MyHarvia app, for example, via home automation.
Compatibility
The Fenix product family is compatible with many different uses. Below you will find various options for purchasing new products or updating your existing products:
Buying a new heater for home use
Fenix heaters for home use (FC models) include all necessary parts in one package. The Spirit FC heater includes an integrated safety device, so you don't need a separate door sensor or other safety device for remote use.
The heaters are delivered with a MyHarvia Core license. If you want to use remote control, you need to upgrade your license to MyHarvia Control license. The upgrade is purchased directly in the MyHarvia app.
You can calculate the power requirement (kW) of the heater using the Harvia sauna calculator.
Buying Fenix control panel for my current heater
You can upgrade any current XE or XW heater to Fenix simply by replacing the control panel. No electrician* is needed for installation, as the control panel data cable does not need to be replaced. The same RJ10-RJ10 data cable fits both XE and XW models as well as Fenix.
Note: Fenix remote control functions are not compatible with the CX110 (CX110400) control unit!
Recommended option: Upgrade your current heater with the FX002XW accessory package
- FX002XW accessory package includes a Fenix control panel and door sensor for remote use. *Please note that the installation of the door sensor requires a qualified electrician.
Second option: Upgrade only the control panel
- If you already have a safety device installed, or alternatively do not need remote control functions, choose the FX001XW accessory package (control panel only).
Both FX accessory packages include a Control license as standard.
Backward compatibility
Note: Fenix remote control functions are not compatible with the Xenio CX110 (CX110400) control unit!
Buying a new heater for professional use
For professional use, such as in public saunas, or rental cottages, we recommend purchasing an E model heater equipped with a separate control unit:
E model heater for professional use
The difference between the E model and the standard model intended for home use is that all control electronics are located in a separate power unit outside the heater.
The Fenix separate control unit is compatible with almost any E model heater. When selecting a control unit, consider the following: A: heater power (kW) B: whether the heater is equipped with a vaporizer function C: safety device selection:
The E model heater, control unit and safety device* are sold separately. If the E model heater is installed for home use, the door sensor supplied with the control unit is used as a safety device. *The safety device is only required for remote use - otherwise, it is not necessary.
You can calculate the power requirement (kW) of the heater using the Harvia sauna calculator. The control unit model is selected based on the power and/or features of the heater as follows:
Control unit FX110
- Maximum heater power 11 kW. Can be expanded to 28 kW with the LTY17 power unit
- IPX5 rating: Separate power unit can be placed in the sauna room
- SFE safety device must be purchased separately (professional use)
Control unit FX170
- Maximum heater power 17 kW. Can be expanded to 34 kW with the LTY17 power unit
- A separate power unit is placed in a dry space.
- SFE safety device must be purchased separately (professional use)
Control unit FX110C
- For heaters with steaming function (vaporizer)
- Maximum heater power 11 kW. Can be expanded to 28 kW with the LTY17 power unit
- IPX5 rating: Separate power unit can be placed in the sauna room
- SFE safety device must be purchased separately (professional use)
+ Safety device SFE
- Home use: a door sensor for home use is included in the sales package. No SFE safety device required.
- Professional use: SFE safety device is purchased separately.
- A safety device is also required when remote control is performed via potential-free tip data (on/off) instead of the MyHarvia app, for example, via home automation
+ Power extension unit LTY17/LTY17C
- Only required when heater power (kW) exceeds the maximum power of the control unit, or if the heater has 2 power groups (two supply cables)
- LTY17C only for Combi sauna heaters equipped with two separate steamer units.
Note: Fenix remote control functions are not compatible with the Xenio CX110 (CX110400) control unit!
Guest mode
Guest mode allows you to restrict or hide certain settings from the control panel view behind a PIN code. This feature is useful if, for example, you want to restrict the minimum or maximum temperatures of the sauna to certain values.
Example of Guest mode use as shown in the image above: In a hotel room with a sauna, the sauna heater settings are limited so that the customer can adjust the temperature between 60 and 80 degrees Celsius, and the heater's operating time (on-time) is locked for two hours. Access to the settings menu is blocked with a PIN code.
Harvia IO Web Portal
