Integrated safety switch
Spirit FC heaters are equipped with an integrated safety switch.
Safety switch prevents heating if an object, such as a towel, is placed on top of the appliance and may pose a fire hazard. A safety device is required for remote use.
Safety switch calibration for Harvia Spirit FC heaters
The safety switch is calibrated at the factory, but the setting may become misaligned during shipping or installation. Recalibration can be performed according to the instructions below.
Recalibration must be performed if
- The safety switch does not turn off the heater when pressed down.
- The heater won't turn on, and the control panel displays the message “check heater safety sensor”
Before proceeding to Step 1, make sure that
- The safety device cable between the heater and the power unit is wired correctly (not included with the heater)
Note: Does not apply to Spirit XW heaters with Xenio control panel and door sensor.
Note: All maintenance operations requiring special skills must be carried out by a trained professional.
Step 1
- If the heater has not yet been mounted on the wall, proceed to step 2.
- Make sure that all the fuses for the heater are turned off on the electrical panel.
- Remove stones from the heater.
- Remove the heater from the wall bracket by loosening the two locking screws, and also remove the integrated safety switch from the top of the heater:
Step 2
- Place the heater on a flat surface, such as the edge of a sauna bench, in an upright position so that the heater’s cables do not get bent. Make sure the heater cannot tip over or fall onto the floor. It is not necessary to disconnect the power supply cable or the safety switch cable from the heater.
- The safety switch may only be calibrated when the heater is in an upright position.
- Attach the safety switch on top of the heater while the heater is detached from the wall bracket.
- Temporarily attach two locking screws to lock the safety switch firmly in place:
Step 3
- Adjust the position of the safety switch up or down as needed using the adjustment screw located on top of the heater.
- The front section of the safety switch must not come into contact with the heater body when installed: there must be an air gap (approximately 8–10 mm) beneath the front section to ensure proper function.
Step 4
The limit switch is located at the bottom, behind the heater:
- A: Lock nut for the adjustment screw
- B: Height adjustment screw for the limit switch
- C: Limit switch (and limit switch assembly inside the heater)
The limit switch must be adjusted to the correct position (height) to function properly. Adjust the height of the limit switch as follows:
- Slightly loosen the locking nut (A)
- Turn the height adjustment screw (B) counterclockwise to lower the limit switch or clockwise to raise it.
- Lock the nut (A) by tightening it securely.
Step 5
- After calibration, test the safety switch by pressing it down gently.
- A properly functioning device makes a “click” sound when pressed and again when released:
Step 6
- Loosen the two mounting screws (fastened in Step 2), lift the heater onto the wall bracket, and tighten the screws back into place:
- Do not stack the stones in such a way that they prevent the safety device from moving downward. The safety switch must be in a free-floating position on top of the stove.
If the safety switch does not work after calibration
If the safety switch continues to malfunction after calibration, make sure that:
- The heater makes a faint clicking sound when the safety switch is pressed down, and another click when it is released.
- The safety device cable between the heater and the power unit is wired correctly (not included with the heater)
