This article provides instructions for installing the Harvia SFE safety switch and configuring the control panel settings for remote use of the sauna heater. Applies to Xenio, Fenix and VKK products. Find instructions for the door switch setup here.
Wiring
- SFE safety switch may only be installed by a qualified electrician.
- Connect wires to SAFETY and GND terminals on the circuit board (terminals X15 and X16). Separate connectors are included in the package.

Xenio Control panel settings
- Xenio control panel additional setting S - 00 must be in SAFE mode.
How to enter additional settings in Xenio control panel?
Press the control panel buttons - MENU + simultaneously for 5 seconds until the menu opens. The heater must be turned off (standby mode) when entering additional settings. Please note that the buttons do not glow when the heater is turned off.
How to navigate and make changes in additional settings?
- Press MENU to move to the next setting.
- Use the - or + buttons to change the selected setting, then press MENU to save.
- Press MENU to move to the next setting until the menu closes.

Fenix Control panel settings
- Enable Remote use in the control panel settings and select Safety switch as safety device.
Professional VKK control unit settings
- Enable remote control in the control panel settings and select safety switch.
Troubleshooting
Remote use not working
- Safety switch circuit is open. Check safety switch and wires.
- Remote control is not activated from the control panel. Change settings.
- The safety switch is incorrectly connected to the circuit board. Check connections.
Xenio control panel error message: SAFE
- Safety switch circuit is open. Check safety switch and wires.
- Safety switch is incorrectly connected to the circuit board. Check connections.
Xenio control panel error message: DOOR
- Remote setting is incorrectly in door mode. Change setting to SAFE mode.
VKK control unit error message: "Safety switch circuit open. Check safety switch!"
- Safety switch circuit is open. Check safety switch and wires.
- Safety switch is incorrectly connected to the circuit board. Check connections.
